This specialized program teaches experienced climbers how to safely lead climb while rope soloing. Leading rope solo is one of the most efficient ways to get high-quality mileage on routes, train for big objectives, and climb on your own terms without needing a partner.

What You Will Learn:

  • Advanced rope solo systems for leading (Micro Traxion, Silent Partner, and other setups)

  • Proper lead rope solo rigging and safety backups

  • Leading technique while managing a solo system

  • Efficient gear management and route finding

  • Self-rescue and problem-solving specific to rope solo leading

  • Risk assessment and decision-making for solo climbing

This is a high-level course. Participants should be strong sport leaders (solid 5.10 leader) with previous top rope solo experience strongly recommended.

Gain the skills and confidence to climb long, hard routes on your own while maintaining rigorous safety standards.

Please note that all climbing will be done with a back up, top rope belay.

Prerequisites:

Strong background in leading sport and trad up to 5.10 terrain. Knowledge of basic anchor system with gear and bolts.

  • Climbing equipment necessary to lead rope solo and what is and is not recommended by the manufacturers of said gear.

  • Review of climbing knots, hitches, and progress capture devices

  • Bolted / natural anchor construction

  • How to protect yourself while lead rope soloing

  • How to clean anchors

  • Basics of self rescue

  • A professionally trained and/or certified AMGA guide or instructor

  • All necessary climbing equipment including harnesses, helmets, climbing shoes, belay devices, ropes, and protection. We do recommend you do bring your own personal gear, but if you don’t want to, we will provide.

  • Professional guiding and instruction throughout the entire day

  • Resources to further your rock climbing journey

Excludes:

  • Transportation. You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from a designated meeting area

  • Gratuity of 10% - 20% is common for this industry.

  • Personal items such as food, clothing, backpack, etc. (Gear list will be provided!)

  • Entrance fees and parking fees (if necessary)

Itinerary

7:45am – Meet at the local climbing area.

8:00am – Introductions, small talk, and gear check / gear fitting.

8:20am – Head up to the crag!

8:30am – Ground school & classroom portion

  • Lead rope solo gear review

  • How to set your anchor ground and top

  • Utilizing your gear

  • Rappeling

  • Basic self rescue skills

  • Cleaning your climb

10:30am - Get some climbing in!

12:00pm - Lunch break.

1:20pm – Debrief, Q&A, Next steps

1:45pm - Pack up gear and enjoy your new skills!
